The biggest problem I had with the book is that the whole.thung feels rushed, almost like it's the CliffNotes version. And that impacted everything else.The characters would have all been interesting if there had been more.time to get to know them. And the plot and romance would have been more anything had there been more.
The writing and technical editing were pretty good so that's a plus.
So, it isn't that it's a bad book, just that it wasn't all it could have been.

I must admit I don't like buying rewrites. But I read a post by the author and decided to give it a try. I loved the original series but the new rewrites are like reading a whole new book. I LOVED IT! Will definitely be getting the rest in the series. Great Job Toni
I just love a good werewolf romance and this set of two books really pleased me. I am re-reading both of them for about the sixth time. In the first book our young hero Brian has been rejected by his family and wolf pack for being gay and his truck breaks down on the edge of a strange town. The sheriff who stops to help him turns out to be his mate but harshly rejects him, as a male mate doesn't fit in with his life plans. Some delicious drama ensues. I love the spunky main character who's determined to live life his own way. The follow-up book to this, Determined Mate Holland Brothers 2 was also great as Jason, the best friend of Brian, arrives seeking refuge after a violent attack. I love the strong alpha protecting his little mate bit ;) After reading this book maybe I'll try cooking squid again, the author made it sound quite appetizing. ;p

I took a chance with this one, and am so happy I did. I bought this last night, and didn't go to bed until I finished it. At first I thought it would be one of those straight guy turn gay stories, but it is not. It's really a story about Marcus finding out who he is, and finally accepting it.
Brian at the beginning broke my heart, he lost everything and then Marcus treated him like crap. I love that they made Brian strong, despite being smaller than Marcus and the other brothers. He proved that size does not always mean you are the best.
This story does have a lot of sex in it, I will not lie but it kind of blends in well with it. Much like with other stories mates need one another, and that means they are aroused easily by their mates. And the fact they are newly mated means they want each other just a little more. Plus it brought in a really funny scene with the brothers.
Unfortunately, there is just not a whole lot to this book. The storyline was nothing new, the characters were kind of boring and even though there were several sex scenes, they were nothing to write home about. I wish there had been something that moved me, but it just fell short.
The first book has it all. The main character while working as a police officer pulls up to his destiny his mate. The problem is his mate is a male and he never thought that was a possible outcome. It is so beautiful the way the author takes you through the heartache they each feel. When they do come together you are cheering for them.
Marcus and Brian are a cute couple! Even the people on the cover resembles the Brian and Marcus characters a lot. Jason is so sweet and he is so right for Marcus. Although Marcus was an idiot at the beginning for denying his mate but he got his head out of his ass. Marcus' brothers also add a bit of humor in the story whenever they are around. I have never seen parents like Marcus'. They were so understanding and considerate and nice that I thought it was wonderful. From the beginning of Stacey's appearance at the supermarket, I already knew she was one huge B****.
This was pure escapism! I don't read a lot of shifter romance but was really looking forward to this series. I wanted nice, easy reading and that was exactly what I got.
Marcus is one of the Holland brothers. Of the four, there are three gay brothers (what are the chances?) and Marcus who is the odd one out. That is until he meets Brian, his mate.
"Why couldn't this man belong to one of his gay brothers? Hell, why couldn't this man be a women?"
What follows is a cute story as Marcus turns away from Brian and then needs to try to win him back. Throw in a bit of drama with a bitchy ex-girlfriend and a nice accepting family - a fun, light read with a happy ending!
On a side note, the only thing I struggle with in this type of story are the weirder elements of sex - a knot at the end of someone's dick taking hold of his partner's prostate just seems freaky to me. I need to stop putting too much thought into just how that would work!
