Stolen by a Dragon.
My kidnapper is tall, dark and alien….

My dull, predictable life as a scientific researcher is ripped apart the day blood-thirsty pirates attack our space ship. In the confusion, the ship is thrown off course.

We crash land on a planet that can barely support life.

Yeah…things are going swell.

I’ve escaped the pirates, at least. But I’ve got a new problem. The planet is home to a dragon-alien, and he has his eyes set on me. Ladon, a powerful Zmaj warrior rescues me from the scorching desert wasteland.

Ladon takes me to his lair. I’m his treasure. His mate. He loves my curves and my soft, human form. He makes it clear that he intends to keep me and claim me in every way. The moment he touches my trembling body, he leaves no doubt.

This fierce, protective dragon owns me.

Dragon's Baby by USA Today Bestselling Author Miranda Martin is a full length, standalone SFR novel with a happily ever after ending, plenty of steam, bloody battles and alien-human intrigue.

So a friend of mine likes to send me links of free books on Amazon, which is how I came across this one. Normally I ignore them because I've not had much luck with them. Yet once again I fell for all the 5 star reviews and thought, ok well let's try it once more.

I was pleasantly surprised that there were no glaring grammatical issues so that is a plus. I stopped reading about halfway through this book so there are spoilers for the first half but it should not spoil the ending for you if you choose to read this.

Opening scene where Callista is late for work and trying to get through security. I actually kept reading because of this scene but then it was not long before I was surprised to find this was a colony ship. Callista's generation is apparently the third born on this ship so it did not make too much sense to me to have this kind of security for a wheat lab, which is where she works. So we don't learn much about her here other than she is a habitually late employee, whose old gross boss enjoys hitting on. During this part of the book, Callista and friends enjoy making references to Star Trek, Star Wars, Han Solo, Chewie, Schwarzenegger, and The Rock is a favorite. I guess they are all knowledgeable 21st century television historians.

Let's move on. This colony ship apparently has little ability to notice or defend against unknown ships that are approaching it as all we get is an alarm, which our intrepid heroine and her friends notice, is not a drill. This is followed by alien pirates boarding the ship and doing the regular piratey things. So things become a bit confused here, but there are pirates so that can be expected. The girls are supposed to head to their assigned stations but also to the escape pods. I cannot figure out what they are supposed to be doing but we do get a Sean Connery impersonation here when they interact with their first pirates. We meet the head of security soon after. Complete in flowing white garb, in hand to hand (because there seems to be no weapons) combat with the alien pirates. I admit I heard some dramatic heroish music play in my head right here. A bit more confusion ensues and then we find ourselves crashed on an alien desert planet for some unexplained reason. Our heroine wakes up on the sand, with a headache among ship debris and the various bodies of her shipmates. Her friends are all unscathed and hanging around her (future books, no thanks). Our head of security in her flowing whatever she is wearing, has survived also and takes charge. She asks Callista what her job was on the ship. Botanist, great, very useful. She does not ask the other three girls, one of whom is also a botanist. She then sends the three girls off to scout, check bodies, whatever, and sends Callista out alone, on an alien desert planet that they have not even scouted, to find local flora and study it. okay....umm...sounds like a smarter leader is in order.

So off she goes. Our hero has meanwhile, noticed something falling from the heavens and is on his way. So Callista find a plant and is checking it out. She then succumbs to the heat and passes out predictably. Our hero has been watching, fascinated of course, at this "treasure' and so rescues her, taking her off to some oasis and ignoring the rest of the survivors whom he has also seen. In the course of trying to revive her he removes all her clothing because yeah, they are making her too hot. He's got the hots for her too by the way for some inexplicable reason. Now let's play alien doctor. So he is quite fascinated by the human body parts, exterior breasts! Oh my! Pubic hair! Oh my! For some reason he starts fingering her while she is unconscious. He notes she stirs and thus figures this is a great way to wake her up. It works. She wakes up. She is briefly alarmed, and rightfully so, when she discovers she is being fingered by an alien man thing with scales, horns on his forehead, wings, and a tail. She does not know about the two penises yet but she will find out soon enough. So yeah whoa! Then a moment later she thinks hmm "He's HOT!" Now, I've already had to choke down one implausibility after another but this one is pretty close to the last straw.

I made it about halfway through this book before I could no longer continue. At this point they have learned a few words of each other's languages, screwed with his ridged penis. Callista notes it is rather similar to a ribbed for your pleasure condom. Screwed with the second penis which apparently is just useful for a second go round. Traveled to his deserted city where the reason for said desertion is handily displayed on a screen which is replaying the history of Ladon's people. Honestly the blurb for this books explains more than the book has thus far although I've not noticed either one of them being the loner type as it suggests.

I recommend reading something by Nalini Singh, anything by her actually, or Thea Harrison, and just skip this book.

Dragon Baby A SciFi Alien Romance Red Planet Dragons of Tajss Book 1 edition by Miranda Martin Romance eBooks Reviews

As part of a multi-generational space mission, Calista's work as a botanist will insure that future generations will have seeds to grow food when they finally arrive at their destination. She long ago accepted her diminishing role in the bigger picture. What she never envisioned was crash landing on an alien red planet because of space pirates.

Long ago, Landon's planet was ravished by war and his society nearly destroyed. He survived, only to live a solitary life on his unforgiving home world. Then the unthinkable happened. An alien craft dropped from the sky and with it, possibilities he believed long ago dead emerged.

Dragon's Baby by Miranda Martin and Juno Wells is a well written and paced Si-fi romance with an interesting story, complex characters, some suspense, some humor and a ton of sex---repeated sex. Don't get me wrong, some heat definitely spices up any love story, especially the first discovery kind. However, some of the pages spent on more sex than was necessary could have been spent mining the profiles of a few of the other characters, or even on an expanded story with more suspense and action. That said, I am left with a story and characters that I really liked, which begs a four star review.
Very well written, and hot! The story is well developed, there's suspense, and the main characters have great chemistry.

Plot summary
The story starts off with the main character getting ready for work on a space ship. They all speak Galactic common and all of a sudden they get attacked by pirates, everyone struggles to make it to their life saving pods, and they land on planet Tajss, which is almost inhospitable with its heat and dangerous fauna. Calista (the main character), gets kidnapped by a native while she was foraging for edible plants (she's a biochemist). The alien, Ladon, is hot, has wings, a tail, horns and scales, and she wakes up after fainting from the heat with him undressing her (because he was trying to prevent her from overheating). They speak different languages, and so she assumes he was trying to rape her (not that she minds, but she's terrified nonetheless). The story is about him providing for her (swoon) up until he is able to access the epis plant that will change her DNA and help her body adapt to the heat of the planet. They find her spaceship near the end, lead the survivors to take the epis plant, then Calista's best friend goes missing, But it's all good, cos we get a happy ending with Calista finding out she's pregnant and Ladon being ecstatic about it.

This book can be read as a standalone, but the ending hints a story for the main character's missing best friend (which I'm definitely going to buy!)
I really liked this book. I would have loved if it was longer though.

The male protagonist was sexy and sweet, caring and protective. Which I loved. The female lead was enjoyable, I liked the science geek aspect. Their relationship evolution was good. The sex was hot. The action in the book was really well written.

However, I really think this book needed more. I gave it 5 stars because what was there was great, but there were so many opportunities to expand the story.

** MINOR SPOILERS**

There is a "bad guy"...why didn't we go into that more?
Tell me more about the planet's history.
Develop the characters a bit more.
Tell me more about the generational ship.
Grrr....just give me more.
